The Initiative for Conservation in the Andean Amazon (ICAA) is a 5-year program (2006-2011) that brings together the efforts of 20 public and private organizations working in the Amazon regions of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, with the goal of building constituencies and agreements that promote the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity and environmental services of the region.

Over 25 institutions from 5 countries meet to discuss improving strategic environmental assessments (SEAs).

On March 10th, more than 60 experts from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and the US met in Lima, Peru to share their experiences in the implementation of strategic environmental assessments around infrastructure projects in the Amazon.

The Cacataibo people make advances toward territorial security

Recognizing the territorial rights of Indigenous peoples is a crucial step towards the stable use of Amazon resources and the well-being of its people. With that in mind, ICAA partners have strengthened zoning efforts in the areas of Huanauco and Ucayali.

Responsible Tourism in Peru and Ecuador

Areas of great biodiversity and scenic beauty in the Andean Amazon, such as areas around the Napo river en Ecuador, as well as Cusco, Peru, are part of an effort that seeks to help the tourism sector become more aware of how to better services in ways that benefit the sector, while at the same time benefiting local biodiversity and culture.

With 9 signed cooperation agreements by local organizations between February and April of 2008, the Rainforest Alliance will offer training and technical assistance in best practices of tourism services that contribute to local development, as well as conservation and biodiversity.
